Mathieu JAIS discovered street photography in London by following his friends in pubs, parks and parties when he was a teenager. He naturally didn’t know it was street photography, and then he travelled to New York where he spent much of his time in the street to practice.
He said: “Luck and unexpected encounters play a major role in this type of photography, as opposed to a portrait, these images are neither posed nor set up. I like to focus on contrast, relations between people, human behaviors, gestures, a gaze : something close to the human being”.
For this talented photographer, the importance lies in the exploration of the instant; a gesture, an attitude, a reaction, a movement, always looking to create for the viewer, an emotion.
